Savannah Police arrest woman in fatal hit-and-run of cyclist
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit has arrested 29-year-old Mikeara Gibbons in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on September 8, 2024.
Officers responded to the 10 block of Derenne Avenue at around 3:20 a.m. on reports of a traffic accident. Once on the scene, police located an adult male cyclist in critical condition.
The cyclist was provided with initial medical assistance and transported to Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the car fled the scene before officers arrived.
Gibbons is charged with homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, hit-and-run, tampering with evidence, and speeding. She was taken into custody on Feb. 19, 2026, with assistance from the Community Response Team.
