SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah Police Department will celebrate new officers and departmental promotions during a badge pinning and promotion ceremony Friday, May 22.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. inside the ballroom at the Savannah Civic Center.

Department leaders say the event will honor 26 newly initiated officers and one lateral recruit while also recognizing officers who have earned promotions within the department.

Officials describe the badge pinning ceremony as a major milestone for incoming officers, symbolizing their commitment to serve and protect the Savannah community. The promotion portion of the ceremony will recognize officers taking on expanded leadership roles and responsibilities.

“This is going to be a great day for our department,” Savannah Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther said in a statement. “We are proud to welcome so many new officers and recognize some of the best amongst us.”

Members of the public and media are invited to attend. Savannah police say photo and interview opportunities with newly pinned and promoted officers will be available following the ceremony.
