Savannah Mayor responds to Frazier Homes shooting
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah Mayor Van Johnson has released a statement on social media following the Sunday night shooting at Frazier Homes on December 28, 2025.
Here is Johnson’s complete statement in full, which you can also read on his Facebook page:
“Our hearts are heavy following the tragic loss of life in the shooting that occurred at the Frazier Homes community on Sunday evening, in the waning days of the year, where a man was fatally shot. This senseless act of violence has deeply impacted our city and especially those who knew and loved the victim.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man whose life was cut far too short. No words can fully express our sorrow, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this unimaginably painful time.
To the friends, neighbors, and all those who witnessed or have information related to this incident: please come forward. Your cooperation could be vital to justice and community safety. You can share information anonymously with the Savannah Police Department Savannah-Chatham CrimeStoppers or through the SPD anonymous tip platforms. Your voice matters, and even a small piece of information may help bring answers to the victim’s family and help prevent future violence.
Now, more than ever, our community must continue to come together, not in fear, but in strength. We must reject violence, support non-violent solutions, and uplift one another with dignity and respect. Each of us has a role to play in building a safer Savannah. I encourage residents to look out for one another, report what you know, and participate in community-based safety efforts.
We will continue to work in partnership with the Savannah Police Department, neighborhood leaders, and city stakeholders to reinforce public safety, expand community engagement, and invest in initiatives that address the root causes of and the dangerous decisions to lead to violence.
#Savannah is a city of resilience, compassion, and unity. We will grieve together, we will seek justice, and we will continue our shared work to ensure every neighborhood is safe and every life is valued."
