Savannah FedEx location to close in June, impacting more than 100 workers
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A FedEx location in Savannah is set to close at the beginning of June, impacting more than 100 employees.
FedEx confirmed the Nicholson Drive facility will shut down, affecting 107 workers, who will either be laid off or moved to another FedEx location.
When asked about the closure, FedEx said it is part of its Network 2.0 plan, which the company says is intended to simplify and improve how it picks up and transports deliveries.
In a statement, FedEx said in part:
Team members at the facility were notified several months in advance, and certain employees will be offered other roles within the company. These decisions are never taken lightly and reflect our commitment to supporting affected employees – through job placement assistance, relocation aid, or severance, as applicable.

Customers leaving the Nicholson Drive facility said the closure came as a surprise and could make shipping more difficult.

Bill Taylor, a customer, said the location’s convenience — including for those traveling from outside Georgia — made it a go-to stop.
“This one was certainly more convenient for me to get to, so I certainly like it, because occasionally I have to come over here and put it in an actual FedEx office,” Taylor said.
Taylor said he relies on the Savannah site when he needs access to a FedEx-owned office.
“What I needed to do was to get to a office, a FedEx office that’s owned by FedEx, and so I’m in South Carolina, and the closest thing from Hilton Head is here,” he said.
Another customer, Robert Lodge, said he drops off packages at the Savannah location multiple times a month and values its later hours.
“It means I’m going to have to find another location to deliver my packages… I know these guys are open late, so I can sorta work later, and be able to bring my stuff just before the flights,” Lodge said.
FedEx said the next closest site for customers is on Coleman Parkway in Pooler, about five miles from the Nicholson Drive location.
The company said customers should not expect shipping delays once the facility closes, adding that planning and preparation have been underway for months.
