Savannah Arts Academy to present ‘6 Degrees of Separation’ at Tybee Post Theater
TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - A play about a stranger who infiltrates New York’s high society by claiming to be Sidney Poitier’s son is coming to the Tybee Post Theater this weekend.
Savannah Arts Academy will present John Guare’s “6 Degrees of Separation,” set in 1980s New York City.
“It deals with a young man who comes into this high elite society and wants to be part of it,” Director David Poole said. “His way of entering into the society is by claiming that he is the son of Sidney Portier.”
The play examines deeper themes of connection and identity while exploring the strange ways our lives can interest.
“It’s about trying to find truth within the world we live in,” Poole said. “What is truth, what is fiction, how are we all connected, and we are all connected. And so this play speaks to us today in those societal issues.”
Four showings of the play are scheduled at the Tybee Post Theater this weekend.
- Friday April 10 at 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday April 11 at 2:30 p.m.
