Saturday night shooting in Richmond Hill leaves 2 dead, 1 hospitalized, GBI investigating

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 11:32 a.m. 9/21/2025] According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, at the request of Richmond Hill Police Department, GBI agents are now investigating the death of Umar Haqq, age 19, of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and James Wallace, age 18, of Savannah, Georgia.

The GBI says that on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m., the Richmond Hill Police Department responded to Ashton Apartment Complex on Harris Trail Road in Richmond Hill, Georgia, in reference to a shooting.

Law enforcement officers arrived on scene and discovered Haqq and Wallace with gunshot wounds, the GBI says.

Haqq and Wallace were pronounced dead at the scene, while another person was also located with a gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The GBI says the bodies of Haqq and Wallace will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia, for autopsies.

The case remains active and ongoing.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Bryan County Sheriff’s deputies and Richmond Hill Police responded to a fatal shooting late Saturday night, on September 20, 2025, around 10:00 p.m.

The shooting happened at the Ashton Apartments at 505 Harris Trail.

The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office said one person is dead and another is injured.

Richmond Hill Police will now be the agency in charge.
