Salvation Army launches emergency food campaign to meet ‘surging’ local need
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Salvation Army has launched an emergency food campaign titled “Feed Hope. Share Love.” in response to a dramatic rise in local food-assistance requests, according to a press release WTOC just received.
The Salvation Army says these requests are “some three to five times higher than usual levels in recent weeks.”
With grocery and utility prices continuing to strain family budgets, we’re seeing many of our neighbors turning to us for the first time.
Our faith calls us to feed the hungry and serve those in need, and we’re confident our community will come together once again to make that possible.”
Captain Chris Doborwicz, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army of Savannah
The Salvation Army says that, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 13.5 percent of U.S. households experienced food insecurity in 2023, and 17.9 percent of households with children were food insecure.
