SSU recognizes over 1,800 students for academic achievement
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah State University celebrated more than 1,800 students during its Honors Convocation on April 9 at Tiger Arena.
Students earning a 3.0 GPA or higher were recognized with distinctions including Medallion honors, as well as placement on the President’s and Dean’s Lists.
Keynote speaker Quianna Lavant encouraged students to stay focused, calling their achievements “significant.”
Carolyn Charlize Jael Calhoun was named SSU’s 2026 Board of Regents Academic Recognition Day representative, an honor awarded to one top student from each University System of Georgia school.
SSU President Jermaine Whirl also recognized faculty excellence. Dr. Benn Bongang received the Teaching Excellence Award, and Dr. Chao Guan earned the Faculty Excellence Award.
Provost Marcus S. Cox said the ceremony reflects SSU’s mission to help students reach their full potential.
