SNOW WATCH: Tracking Southeast Georgia winter storm

by Tomi Marcus

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - For the second winter in a row, snowfall is expected in southeast Georgia. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory today for several Georgia and South Carolina counties.

Effingham County EMA deputy director, Shanna Smith encouraged people to stay off the road to avoid potential crashes.

If traveling, BEMA director Corey Kemp cautioned that bridges freeze before any other part of the road. He urged travelers to be careful when crossing bridges.

Smith also advised not leaving the house unless necessary. To prepare for snowfall, Effingham County officials made these safety suggestions:

  • Be sure to have at least a half full tank of a gas
  • Drip your faucets to prevent frozen, bursting pipes
  • Ensure all resources needed are acquired
  • Cover or bring in plants that cannot survive in these conditions
  • Check on neighbors who may need assistance
  • Dress in layers, stay hydrated
  • Bring pets indoors

Once you are safe and everything is secure, enjoy the snow! Send us your pictures through the form below and they might end up on television!

The Weather Advisory is expected to be in effect through February 1.
