SLED: Person of interest sought in connection with SC State shootings identified
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS) - Weeks after two shootings on the campus of South Carolina State University left one person dead and another hurt, authorities have announced that the person of interest has been identified.
While SLED said the person has been identified, they have still not announced publicly the person of interest’s name.
SLED shared a photo of the person in question on Monday and said they’re looking to speak with him. Anyone who has additional information on the person of interest is asked to call SLED at 866-472-8477.

One of the Oct. 4 shootings claimed the life of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler, while another left one person seriously hurt. Neither victim was a student at SC State.
Monday marked the first time SLED has identified a person of interest or a suspect directly linked to the shootings.
An 18-year-old was charged with firing a weapon after seeing a fight between two groups, while a WIS investigation also found that at least seven other weapons-related arrests were made on SC State’s campus on the day of the incident.
None of those arrests nor any of the charges are directly related to the shootings that killed Butler or injured the other victim.
