SCCPSS addresses Jenkins High School lockdown
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 1:30 p.m. 8/14/2025] No weapons were found at Jenkins High School earlier today and the threat was deemed non-credible, according to a media release from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
“SCCPSS is aware of rumors circulating regarding a weapon at Jenkins High School last week and another reported today. Earlier this morning the school was placed on a precautionary lockdown when a call was received claiming that a student was walking around the school with a weapon. This is not true.”
According to SCCPSS, Campus Police responded and conducted a safety search of the school. No weapons were found and school activities remain on schedule under normal operations.
“A lockdown and safety search are precautionary standard protocols whenever a threat against a school is received,” the release states. “The safety of our staff and students is our top priority.”
Please know that school staff and campus police take these situations very seriously. The incident last week was handled in the same manner and students who make any type of threat toward a school or who bring unapproved items on school grounds face consequences as outlined in our Student Code of Conduct and could face further consequences from law enforcement.
The District does not have any information to indicate a threat toward Jenkins High School. We always encourage students and staff to speak up if they see or hear anything out of the ordinary that could be perceived as a threat. It is that willingness to say something that helps keep our schools a safe environment for learning. In addition, we want to remind you of several resources available for student to anonymously report anything unusual they see or hear:
School Safety Hotline – 912-234-2020 – a partnership with Campus Crimestoppers. Weapons, crime, suspicious activity can all be reported anonymously.
Sandy Hook Promise reporting app.
