SCAM ALERT: Scammers are pretending to be police officers with false warrants
JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - Scammers are pretending to be officers of the law in Jasper County, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a social media post, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says it has “received reports from residents about a scammer impersonating Lt. Jenkins of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.”
The JCSO says the scam caller falsely claims there is a warrant for your arrest and demands payment. The scammer has even set up a fake voicemail recording in hopes people will leave messages.
The sheriff’s office would like to remind residents that JCSO will never call to demand payment over the phone.
“Do not share any personal information,” the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says. “Report these calls to our non-emergency dispatch line at (843) 726-7519 so we can continue working to crack down on these scams. Stay alert and help us keep our community informed.”
