SC Highway Patrol confirms fatal collision on I-95 NB near Jasper County line
JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - [UPDATE] The South Carolina Highway Department confirmed a fatal collision that happened early Wednesday morning.
The collision, between a 2026 Toyota Camry and a 2022 Peterbilt tractor- trailer happened around 5:05 a.m. on I-95 north at the 1 mile marker, according to SCHP.
The Toyota Camry was traveling north on I-95, while the Peterbilt tractor-trailer was stopped in traffic. Highway patrol said the Toyota Camry hit the back of the Peterbilt and the driver of the Camry died.
The driver of the Peterbilt tractor-trailer was uninjured, according to SCHP.
This collision remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol, stick with WTOC for updates.
[ORIGINAL STORY] A crash on I-95 northbound near the Jasper County line is set to back up traffic in the area Wednesday morning.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office told us the crash involved a vehicle and a semi.
The Hardeeville Police Department also advised drivers to use caution while driving Wednesday morning.
“Motorists are advised to use caution on I-95 northbound near the state line due to a motor vehicle collision outside the city limits that is causing traffic delays. Please expect slowdowns and consider alternate routes if possible. Drive safely,” wrote Hardeeville PD in a social media post.
