Rotary Club of Savannah partners with Polish club to host deployed soldiers
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - It was a holiday party around the world.
The Rotary Club of Savannah held it’s annual Christmas party Monday afternoon with a toy drive to benefit Santa’s Bunker. Santa’s Bunker collects toys for families of soldiers who are stationed at Hunter Army Airfield and Fort Stewart.
Monday’s party had some very special guests.
Soldiers from Fort Stewart currently stationed in Poland joined the celebration through video chat. A Rotary club in Poland hosted the soldiers for a holiday party and the Rotary Club in Savannah hosted the families of those deployed. The two groups were able to share holiday cheer.
Rotary club members brought in new and unwrapped toys to be donated to Santa’s Bunker.
“We always look for great service opportunities,” said Rotary Club of Savannah President Pete Hoffman.
“With so much of the division deployed, but also its been an interesting year for our military with the government shutdown and some other things going on. So, Santa’s Bunker is an opportunity to give back by making sure that militaries families and military students have Christmas gifts on Christmas morning.”
