CANDLER COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Cowart Pond Road and Canady Bridge Road will close immediately, wrote the Candler County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post.

As of right now, Emanuel County has not provided an estimated reopening date. Officials say travel between Candler County and Emanuel County using this route is not possible until further notice.

Law enforcement says parents and students of David Emanuel Academy who normally travel this road will need to find another route.

“We are also triggering a closure update in Waze to assist with navigation. Please plan ahead and share this information so others in our community are aware,” wrote the Candler County Sheriff’s Office.

The Emanuel County Board of Commissioners shared more information about the closure.

They said a hazard invisible to drivers prompted the shut down.

“A hazard invisible to drivers prompted our public works team to shut it down until further notice. It could be a while before it’s reopened simply because the issue is complex and will not be a quick repair. We realize this will cause some inconvenience for commuting, but as always, keeping everyone safe comes first,” wrote the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners.

They ask drivers to plan accordingly, you can detour using any of these three routes: Lambs Bridge Road, Highway 57, and Stillmore Highway.

County officials said their public works team has also noticed repetitive removal of the road closure signs.

They said if you approach Canady Bridge Road without a sign, call 478-237-3741 to make sure it’s actually safe.
