Public officials discuss local option sales tax extension and school tax relief at monthly NAACP meeting

by Stephanie Adkisson

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah’s chapter of the NAACP held their monthly meeting Sunday with public officials running for office invited to speak to the public about what they hope to accomplish in office.

The meeting included discussion of a local option sales tax extension and Chatham County School’s tax relief act.

Rep. Ron Stephens, chair of the local legislation delegation spoke at Sunday’s meeting.

“I have been an advocate from the get-go, that whenever you buy something that you not be paying rent on it,” Stephens said. “How we get there, we done that with your automobile. You used to pay a tax on that, we fixed that, that’s gone. The next thing is whenever you own your home to not have pay rent to the city, county, and school system, but we have to find a revenue to replace it.”
