Portal and Sylvania men arrested on drug trafficking charges

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Two men have been arrested following a Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office investigation into methamphetamine distribution and thefts, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team and Criminal Investigations Division says it conducted an investigation into William Cody Sparks of Portal and obtained arrest warrants for Sparks and Jace Best of Sylvania.

Best was arrested Jan. 29, 2026, at a residence in Screven County with assistance from the Screven County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Bulloch County Jail without incident.

Sparks began evading law enforcement after Best’s arrest and fled Bulloch County, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Feb. 5, 2025, Crime Suppression Team investigators learned that Sparks would be traveling back to Bulloch County that evening. With assistance from the Flock license plate reader system, deputies and investigators tracked and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Sparks was traveling in.

Sparks attempted to flee the traffic stop on foot but was quickly apprehended and transported to the Bulloch County Jail.

Jace Adam Best faces charges of sale of methamphetamine and manufacturing, distributing, dispensing, or possessing a controlled substance near a park or housing project.

William Cody Sparks faces multiple charges including trafficking methamphetamine (criminal attempt), sale of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of Schedule III controlled substance, possession of drug-related object, obstruction of law enforcement officers, possession of a knife during the commission of certain felonies, theft by receiving stolen property, theft by taking, use of communication facility in commission of a felony (two counts), driving while license suspended (two counts), and manufacturing, distributing, dispensing, or possessing a controlled substance near a park or housing project.

Sheriff Brown encourages citizens to contact the Crime Suppression Team with any complaints of suspected drug activity. All complaints will remain anonymous and will be investigated thoroughly.
