Police arrest 2 suspects in October Statesboro fatal shooting outside bar

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE: 10:49 AM] The second suspect connected to a fatal shooting in Statesboro in October has been arrested. Khalir Nickens was also arrested this weekend for the murder of Deontre Mincey.

Statesboro Police released the following statement following our inquiry about the arrests: “Two individuals have been taken into custody for the October 2025 murder of Deontre Mincey on Lanier Drive. Timothy Ward was arrested on December 18, 1925, in Effingham County by U.S. Marshals and transported back to Bulloch County. He is charged with Murder in this case and also had various outstanding charges from unrelated incidents. On 12/19/25, Khalir Nickens turned himself in to the Bulloch County Jail. He is charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault.

“This case was investigated and arrests made with the assistance of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Screven County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Southern University Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service. Anyone with information related to this homicide investigation should contact Senior Detectives Cross or Hardin at 912-764-9911." The Police department said in a statement.

Police say Khalir Nickens was located and taken into custody by the Statesboro Police Department. Nickens and Timothy Odell Ward are accused of shooting and killing Deontre Mincey.

Nickens is charged with murder and aggravated assault. Bond has not been set.

Police captured Timothy Odell Ward Thursday night on charges of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault party to a crime and terroristic threats and acts.
