Plans for new student housing at USCB underway

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The University of South Carolina Beaufort is planning to build two new student residence halls — one on its main campus in Bluffton and one on its Hilton Head Island campus.

“We are thankful for USCB’s growing popularity, and we are responding to pressure on our ability to house students on campus,” Chancellor Al Panu said. “These new residence halls will go a long way to meeting demand.”

Master planning set to begin in March

Master planning for both residence halls will begin in March 2026 and is expected to last six to eight months. The master plan must be completed before the projects move into the bidding and construction phases.

Bluffton hall aimed at first-year students

School officials say the Bluffton residence hall will be designed for first-year students. It will be located near Finland Field, home of the Sand Sharks women’s soccer team.

The residence hall is set to help create an energizing and welcoming atmosphere at soccer games, according to school officials.

Hilton Head Island hall targets upper-class students

USCB says the Hilton Head Island residence hall will be designed for upper-class students majoring in hospitality management. It will be the first residence hall on the island since the USCB campus opened at the resort in 2019. The building is planned for a site next to the current university building on Sand Shark Drive, connected by a walkway.

“The timeline for the Hilton Head Island project will be aligned with the master plan schedule,” said Landon Jones, USCB Vice Chancellor for Finance and Operations. “We are coordinating with Hilton Head Island leadership to ensure the project aligns with the community’s needs.”
