Plane overshoots runway while landing at Beaufort County airport; no injuries reported
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A light-engine aircraft overshot the runway while landing at Beaufort County Executive Airport on Friday afternoon, county officials say.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Authorities emphasized that calling the event a “crash” would be a stretch.
No injuries were reported, and damage to the aircraft was described as minimal.
Airport and county crews worked at the scene to remove the plane from the grass.
Officials said the aircraft has been pulled clear and that crews are conducting inspections of the runway surface and surrounding area as a precaution, including checks for any possible chemical spills.
Operations at the airport were temporarily suspended while crews completed the removal and safety checks.
The county said runway checks were underway and that the airport is expected to reopen later Friday night once inspections are complete.
County officials said they will provide additional information if it becomes available.
