Ossoff slams Trump’s budget cuts, warns Georgia families could face skyrocketing health costs, nursing home closures
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia Democrats are sounding the alarm over new federal budget cuts they say could devastate health care access across the state.
A new Kaiser Family Foundation study projects Georgians could see their health insurance premiums jump by 21% to 40% under the recently passed federal budget bill championed by Trump and other Republicans.
Further analysis from Brown University’s School of Public Health warns that nearly 37 nursing homes could close in Georgia, with about 70% of residents relying on Medicaid to afford their care.

Without coverage, many seniors could be left without critical services.
In a virtual press conference Friday, August 1, Senator Ossoff said, “We’re talking about thousands of dollars per year more that Georgia families will pay to get health insurance for ourselves and for our kids when folks are already having trouble covering housing, groceries, gas, mortgage payments, car payments.”
Republicans argue the budget cuts are aimed at rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in federal health programs.
Rep. Buddy Carter, when discussing the executive actions targeted at overspending, said on July 27, “It is an honor to represent the First Congressional District of Georgia and fight for these commonsense priorities in Washington.”
