Oscar Meyer Wienermobile on Savannah streets to help Senior Citizens Inc.’s mission
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The iconic Oscar Meyer Wienermobile is helping hand out food to Senior Citizens Inc. clients on Thursday morning as part of its “Meals on Wheels” program.
Senior Citizens Inc. provides 1,600 meals to older adults across Coastal Georgia every day.
President of Senior Citizens Inc., Patti Lyons, said the collaboration helps their mission to help older adults in our communities, relying on their services.
“We ‘relish’ that opportunity and we’ve been able to ‘mustard’ up several clients who are very excited,” she said. "
It’s especially important now, too, as the federal government shutdown continues.
“I’m hopeful that this will not be a conversation next but, for right now, I just want our clients to know we’ll be there.”
She said the decision to partner with the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile was established before the shutdown began. They knew the budget discussions were not going well, she said, and they weren’t anticipating it would last this long, but Thursday’s initiative is about focusing on their “Meals on Wheels” program.
“Our visit every day are the only people they see, and we’re their single source of food, and that’s the hardest part for us,” she said. “It takes all of us, and it’s also about having fun.”
Anyone over 55 years old can get meals from Senior Citizens Inc. They can call them at 912-236-0363 with any questions about getting involved in the Meals on Wheels program.
