One suspect sentenced to life in prison, other suspect receives probation for 2022 Savannah murder
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Two men are facing charges in the 2022 Savannah murder of 17-year-old Devion Bates-Carrington. One suspect is headed to prison, and the other received probation during a sentencing hearing, Friday.
Both JT DeLoach and Johnathan Yusef Hameed Abdullah faced charges for the shooting death of Bates-Carrington.
Friday, a judge sentenced JT Deloach to life in prison with the possibility of parole for felony murder.
Due to a negotiated guilty plea, Abdullah had most of his charges dropped. He did receive five years of probation for gun and drug possession charges.
In September of 2022, court evidence accused the men of bringing a gun to a drug deal on East 71st Street. The District Attorney’s Office says the transaction turned into a robbery. Then there was a fight, leading to DeLoach shooting Carrington.
