One person dead following house fire on Tybee Island
TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) — One person has died following a house fire Tuesday afternoon on Tybee Island, authorities confirmed.
Tybee Island Fire Rescue says they were dispatched at 12:38 p.m. on Tuesday to a report of smoke coming from the attic of a home on Lovell Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews deployed two attack lines and established a water supply from the nearest hydrant. An initial attack team entered the structure to begin fire suppression and to search for occupants.
Crews located the fire in the kitchen area, and removed one person and two cats from a rear bedroom.
Authorities later confirmed that one person died following the incident.
The Tybee Island Police Department, Chatham County Fire and Chatham Emergency Services assisted on scene. The Georgia State Fire Investigator also responded to the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
