JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - One person died and another was transported to a Savannah hospital after a two-vehicle crash on W Frontage Road in Jasper County Wednesday evening, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

The collision occurred at 6:44 p.m. on March 4, 2026, on W Frontage Road near the intersection with Gregory Neck Road, about eight miles north of Ridgeland, according to Master Trooper William Bennett.

Officials say the driver of a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was the only occupant of that vehicle and died at the scene. The deceased person was later identified as 37-year-old Kraig Daniel Blatchley Jr. of Ridgeland.

The driver of a 2012 Chevy Suburban was also the only occupant of that vehicle and was transported to Memorial Health in Savannah.

Officials say both vehicles were traveling north on W Frontage Road when the Chevy Suburban ran off the road to the left, came back onto the roadway, and struck the Dodge Ram. The Dodge Ram then ran off the road to the right, overturned, and struck a tree. After striking the Dodge Ram, the Chevy Suburban ran off the road to the left, struck a power pole, and overturned.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
