SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -The Old Savannah City Mission teamed up with the Savannah Police Department Saturday for their 5th annual “Love Thy Neighborhood” event.

Volunteers worked in Thomas Square and nearby neighborhoods, picking up trash and spreading love throughout the area. Organizers said the event was a fun and meaningful way to make a difference in the community.

“Help out and just show to the other businesses and residents around here that we care. And not just caring about our own building, but we care about the entire neighborhood,” said Marc Dunston, also known as Magic Marc.

Volunteers traveled from as far as Florida to help with the clean-up efforts.

“We’ve been doing this for about five years. We actually have churches from Jacksonville, Florida that came up, Callahan Church came up this weekend to give us a hand. So it’s a great opportunity to show that we care about Savannah,” said Jermaine Ray, program director.

After the clean-up, lunch was served to all the volunteers.
