Noise advisory issued for increased jet activity in Garden City area

by Shakuria Smith

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WTOC) - Residents in Garden City and surrounding Coastal Georgia communities may notice an increase in jet noise later this month.

Officials issued a noise advisory for January 20 through January 30, 2026, due to increased military aircraft activity connected to the Sentry South 26.1 training exercise.

The activity is expected to impact areas in and around Savannah Hilton Head International Airport, as well as nearby coastal communities. Officials say the exercise includes advanced aircraft operations designed to support pilot readiness and operational training.

The advisory was shared in coordination with the Air Dominance Center in Savannah, which regularly supports large-scale military exercises in the region.

Officials say flight schedules and noise levels may vary during the exercise period depending on operational needs and weather conditions. The increase in jet noise is temporary.

Residents with concerns are encouraged to follow updates from local officials and airport authorities throughout the exercise.
