New Oak Theatre launches inaugural season at Tybee Post Theater

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) -New Oak Theatre is preparing for its inaugural season at the Tybee Post Theater with the musical “I Do, I Do.”

The theater group’s launch has been in development for years, with opening night set for Friday.

“This play is a wonderful intimate experience of what it’s like to be on the inside of a marriage,” said Chase Brackett. “So, a lot of people see a marriage on the outside, but a lot of people don’t get to see that intimate experience on the inside of the bedroom where you get to have the fights, the intimate sexy time, as well as just the fun little humor that happens behind closed doors.”

Brackett said the group plans to perform multiple shows over the coming years.

“We’re going to be performing lots and lots of really fun shows over the next couple of years...and all of these best laid plans are now coming into fruition with I Do, I Do,” Brackett said.

Brackett hopes audiences will connect the story to their own relationships.

“I hope that they just really come away really admiring the connection between Agnes and Michael, and them being able to see the love story represent their own marriages and their own trials and tribulations, and just really see that that was a little piece of me in my own life,” Brackett said.

Performances are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Ticket buyers for Saturday’s 7 p.m. show will receive an extra ticket to bring a friend for free.

“We’re really excited to have everybody come to see this show and just get to see all this hard work that we’ve been working on for the past two to three years, and get everything together,” Brackett said.
