Neighbors report string of break-ins near Daffin Park
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) — Multiple homes near Daffin Park have been broken into over the past several days, according to residents in the Victory Heights and Parkside neighborhoods.
Reports from residents stretch from 39th Street to 64th Street.
Homeowners in the area have been posting on social media and in neighborhood group chats to warn others. Residents say suspects are forcing entry through doors and windows.
“When I got to my back door, the door frame was completely like cracked open,” Worthy said. “It looks like someone took a crowbar and just like broke the frame, got into the house, door wide open, house was humid.”
Worthy said the house was fully rifled through when she returned.
“Went through all the closets, smashed my jewelry box. Yeah, jewelry everywhere,” she said. “We only noticed that there was some envelope of money taken.”
Worthy said she typically works from home, so the timing of the break-in made her feel violated, like she was being watched.
“It just felt targeted because it was just the prime opportunity, like we were being watched,” she said.
Worthy said her neighbors who have lived in the area for decades have never experienced anything like this.
“Definitely an odd occurrence, especially according to my neighbors who’ve lived there for 20, 40 years before and have never had any issues with crime,” Worthy said.
Worthy said her primary concern after the break-in was her dog, who was home alone when the intruders entered.
“That just makes me upset of what she potentially had to go through,” Worthy said. “And we’re just blessed that she wasn’t harmed ultimately, but that really shakes me up.”
Worthy said the experience left her shaken.
“Just shaken up to know that there’s people out there preying on people in our community,” she said.
WTOC has reached out to the Savannah Police Department, which is looking into the exact number of break-ins officers have responded to in the area over the past several days.
