Neighbors react after a woman is killed in neighborhood shooting
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - One woman is dead after a shooting in a Savannah neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
Savannah police responded to a shooting in a neighborhood off East 52nd and Skidaway Road. The woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. No one else was injured.
Police closed the 1800 block of Northgate Drive until 6:30 p.m. Homicide and forensic units were at the scene.
Karen Grashel, a neighbor, was at work when she got the call that someone had been killed right outside her home. She came home to a crime scene.
“You don’t think it is going to happen in your neighborhood, you know you see it some times on the news its happening in other places but you don’t think it is going to happen right outside of your house, it’s kind of shocking,” Grashel said.
“It was quite disturbing,” she said.
Neighbors said this is a quiet, tight-knit neighborhood.
“I have always felt safe, I’ve always felt secure, I’ve never been scared to come out of my house,” Grashel said. “It’s a quiet little neighborhood, we all know each other, so something like this is very upsetting.”
No arrests have been made in the case. Police are investigating it as a homicide.
Myers Middle School and Johnson High School went into lockdown for a time after the shooting. School officials said that’s standard procedure during nearby police activity.
