Nearly 100 EMS calls reported during Savannah St. Patrick’s Day festivities
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The celebration may have been full of fun, but behind the scenes, Chatham Emergency Services was hard at work, responding to nearly 100 incidents during the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
Chatham Emergency Services says crews handled 93 patient encounters between Friday afternoon and early Wednesday morning, with 33 people transported to local hospitals.
The most common calls involved falls, unresponsive patients, alcohol-related issues and other medical emergencies.
To handle the crowds, EMS deployed additional resources, including extra ambulances, all-terrain vehicle teams and walking units throughout the parade route and festival areas.
Officials say crews maintained normal coverage across the county while supporting downtown events.
Operations returned to normal early Wednesday morning.
