Nancy Mace outlines immigration enforcement plan in gubernatorial campaign

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WTOC) - South Carolina Congresswoman and gubernatorial candidate Nancy Mace outlined her public safety platform at the Statehouse, focusing on immigration enforcement.

Mace claims immigration is the top concern among voters. She proposed a bill that would penalize sheriffs and jail administrators who refuse to cooperate with immigration services.

As a congresswoman, Mace can’t introduce state bills. But she’s using this proposal to show what she’d push as governor.

“There should be a mechanism with teeth that allows the governor to remove a sanctuary sheriff because I want to make sure when I’m governor that it never happens again in the state of South Carolina,” Mace said.

Mace said she currently doesn’t have a sponsor for the bill in the South Carolina Legislature because she wrote it over the holidays.
