CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A 13-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the foot at his residence Tuesday afternoon while a parent was at the home, according to Chatham County Police.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on January 6, 2026. The parent was transporting the juvenile for medical care when they decided to pull into the Pooler Fire/Rescue station for more immediate help, police said.

The teen received treatment for his non-life threatening gunshot wound to the foot at a local hospital, according to police.

The investigation indicates the 13-year-old accidentally fired a gun and injured himself at his home. Police said the shooting occurred at an address within the Chatham County Police Department’s jurisdiction.

Police initially reported the teen “showed up” at the fire station with the gunshot wound. The investigation later revealed the parent had transported the child there seeking immediate medical assistance.
