by Christopher Teuton

THUNDERBOLT, Ga. (WTOC) - A Myers Middle School student was allegedly hit by a car on Sunset Boulevard while walking to school, according to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.

WTOC has spoken to a family member of the student who was hit, and is working to learn more of their side of the story. This page will be updated once that new information becomes available.

According to SCCPSS, the student said the car that hit him did not stop. The student continued walking to Johnson High School where he reported the incident to Campus Police.

The student’s parent was notified, and he was transported to Memorial for examination and treatment of minor injuries. The Myers Middle School principal accompanied the student to the hospital for support.

Since this incident did not take place on campus, Thunderbolt Police were notified and is the lead agency in the investigation.

SCCPSS reminds drivers to stay alert and exercise extra caution in neighborhoods and school zones. During the critical hours before and after school, all drivers are urged to reduce speeds, avoid distractions, and remain vigilant for pedestrians.
