Man indicted for murder 15 years later in Candler County
CANDLER COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - 15 years after a murder in Candler County, loved ones of the victim are finally one step closer to getting justice.
The GBI has confirmed that 48-year-old Paul Thomas Reinberg has been indicted by the Candler County grand jury for the murder of 21-year-old Harrison Wayne Olliff from Statesboro.
Reinburg is currently in custody on unrelated charges.
Chief Deputy Melvin Ivey with the Candler County Sheriff’s office has been working on this case since the beginning.
He says Reinburg has always been a suspect.
“His name came up in the investigation and he was interviewed back then,” said Ivey.
The GBI says that enough new evidence was presented to the grand jury to finally indict Reinburg.
Ivey says he has been working with the GBI on this case for 15 years and praying for justice.
“As any investigator, you don’t like your cases or case load to go that long. Especially when you have a family needing answers,” said Ivey. “It weighs on you, but you fight through it and work.”
The Candler County Sheriff’s office says Olliff was reported missing on Thanksgiving Day in 2010.
The Sheriff’s office requested the help of the GBI once Olliff’s vehicle and body were found off of Jones Road in Candler County.
“It’s very satisfying seeing the start of a case all the way through to the end and we still have a lot of work to do with a possible trial and getting a conviction,” said Ivey.
