Man in custody after sporadically firing gun in apartment complex in Statesboro
STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - One man is in custody after police say he was sporadically firing his gun in an apartment complex in Statesboro.
According to a post from the Statesboro Police Department Sunday morning, officers responded to an address on Caribe Court regarding a disturbance late Saturday night. When officers arrived on scene, they found 22-year-old Hunter Quinton discharging a firearm several times.
Officers evacuated several nearby and adjoining apartments while the Quinton sporadically continued to discharge his firearm.
Officials say a trained negotiator spoke with Quinton on the phone in an effort to get him to surrender peacefully. Statesboro Police SWAT put chemical agents into the apartment to get Quinton to come out but was ineffective. SWAT then entered the apartment and took Quinton into custody.
Quinton was booked into jail, but his charges have not been released.
Statesboro Police say they sincerely appreciate the patience of those nearby residents who were temporarily displaced during this situation.
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol also assisted.
Police say more information will be released once the investigation is complete.
