Man found dead at Bryan County Jail

BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 1:45 p.m. 9/16/2025] More details have been revealed about the deceased inmate discovered at the Bryan County Jail, identified as 37-year-old Wesley Barrow.

Authorities say they believe Barrow’s death was self-inflicted.

Per procedure, the investigation into Barrow’s death at the Bryan County Jail has been turned over to a regional investigation task force team.

This regional team is designed so no one agency has to do an investigation of their own agency.

The task force typically focuses on ‘use of force’ investigations, but also assist with in-custody deaths.

Officials say there has bot been a death at the Bryan County Jail since 2024.

The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office says that this death is not due to negligence or failure of procedure.

At the time of writing, the autopsy has not yet been completed.

[ORIGINAL STORY] The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office said Monday evening at around 5:30 p.m., detention officers at the Bryan County Jail found a detainee unresponsive in a medical cell.

The sheriff’s office identified the detainee as 37-year-old Wesley Barrow, Barrow was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

This investigation has been turned over to the regional force investigation team.
