by WTOC Staff

GUYTON, Ga. (WTOC) - The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating a fatal crash.

Deputies responded to a reported vehicle versus cyclist crash before 8 a.m. Monday on Honey Ridge Road in Guyton.

The sheriff’s office says initial information shows a pickup truck hit 58-year-old Franklin Ross from behind while traveling east on Honey Ridge Road.

Ross was on a three-wheeled pedal cycle.

The sheriff’s office said early investigative efforts suggest the sun may have impaired the truck driver’s vision and may have been a contributing factor to this crash.

58-year-old Ross was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

This investigation is ongoing, anyone with information can contact Cpl. James McKie with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit at 912-754-3449 or jmckie@effinghamcounty.org.

The sheriff’s office said this incident was the reason Forensic Mapping in Rincon was delayed.

It has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
