Man arrested for attempted sexual assault after woman attacked in Hilton Head Walmart restroom
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - One man was arrested after a 25-year-old woman was attacked in the Hilton Head Walmart, says the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
35-year-old Joshua Allan Mayfield was charged by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for Assault with the Intent to Commit Criminal Sex Conduct, Kidnapping, two charges of Pointing and Presenting, Burglary 2nd(Violent), and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.
This comes after law enforcement says a 25-year-old woman was attacked at the Hilton Head Walmart on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The sheriff’s office says Mayfield entered the female restroom and pointed a gun at the victim and tried to sexually assault her.
“The victim courageously fought off her attacker,” said the sheriff’s office.
The attack was interrupted by a 78-year-old man, who heard the commotion and went in the restroom to see if someone needed help.
The suspect pointed the gun at the78-year-old man and then ran away, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Mayfield was later identified and the sheriff’s office pursued warrants for his arrest.
“We thank Hampton County Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort City Police Department for their assistance with this case,” wrote the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
