Man arrested for allegedly hitting UGA student outside Athens bar in viral video, records say
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man was arrested after allegedly striking a University of Georgia student outside an Athens bar in an incident captured in a viral video.
Jail records say Kenneth Morgan, 33, was arrested early Friday and charged with aggravated assault and simple battery.
Morgan is allegedly the subject of a viral video where he is seen hitting a woman after being kicked out of an Athens bar.
In the video, he is allegedly seen in Nazi attire as a woman prevents him from entering the bar. A crowd gathers and berates Morgan, who allegedly grabs another woman and hits her with what looks like a pitcher.
UGA confirmed in a statement that the woman who was assaulted is a student and that the Student Care and Outreach team has been in contact with her and other students who witnessed it.
Also in the statement, UGA confirmed that Morgan is not a student and is not affiliated with the school.
“His actions, which were caught on videotape, are appalling, and we are grateful to Athens-Clarke County police officers for swiftly apprehending the arresting him,” UGA said.
Morgan is being held on $1,500 bond for the simple battery charge. The aggravated assault has no bond.
