BURTON, Sc. (WTOC) - Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man Friday morning after investigators say he shot a woman during a domestic altercation at Magnolia Park Apartments in Burton.

According to the sheriff’s office, 37-year-old Jason Aiken faces charges including domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent offense.

Deputies responded shortly before 6 a.m. Friday to reports of a gunshot victim at Magnolia Park Apartments. While responding, investigators learned the people involved had left the area in a vehicle, possibly to seek medical treatment.

Authorities say deputies later located the vehicle near a business along Trask Parkway. Investigators say Aiken fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived.

Deputies found a 28-year-old woman inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency crews transported her for medical treatment.

A perimeter was established, and deputies later found Aiken hiding on a nearby property and took him into custody without incident. During a K9 search of the area, investigators recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

Officials say there was no threat to the public during the search.

The investigation involved assistance from Beaufort Police Department and Port Royal Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Beaufort County.
