Man arrested after breaking into Statesboro Walmart BB gun display case, threatening woman and child
STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) [UPDATE 3:00 P.M.] - Statesboro Police arrested a man who is accused of breaking into a Walmart display case, stealing a BB gun, and threatening a mother and child Tuesday afternoon.
Nathaniel Anthony Jones, 40, of Portal faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Burglary in the 2nd Degree.
Around 12:47 p.m. Feb. 10, Bulloch County dispatchers received multiple reports of a man holding what appeared to be a gun, according to a press release from the Statesboro Police Department.
Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and found Walmart staff had isolated the Jones in the store’s garden center, allowing officers to take him into custody.
Investigators found that once Jones entered the store, he used a tool to break into a glass BB gun display case. SPD say he then approached a female customer and her child in a threatening manner.
Police said the victims had no prior relationship with the suspect, and were able to get away unharmed.
Jones was released from the Georgia Department of Corrections yesterday after serving a sentence for Burglary.
He was booked into the Bulloch County Jail.
