Locals protest Venezuelan strikes

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah locals along with members of the “Party for Socialism and Liberation” gathered in Forsyth Park Saturday afternoon to protest the recent U.S attack on Venezuela.

“Hands off of Venezuela, hands off of Venezuela! No war on Venezuela, no war on Venezuela,” chanted members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Venezuela Protest

“We’re here today protesting against the U.S intervention of Venezuela, which is a fundamental illegal action against a foreign country. We’re trying to get the message across that what the current administration is saying is all lies.” said Cesar Mosquera, a protestor and dual citizen of Venezuela.

“Venezuela doesn’t traffic drugs in an amount that is in anyway a threat to the U.S. Venezuela has the biggest oil resources known, and it’s reaching gray minerals, gold and other resources, so that’s what’s fundamentally going on and that’s why we’re here.”

Mosquera chants in protest in Forsyth Park

Mosquera was born and raised in Venezuela, and fears for his family and friends back home.

“What has happened last night, it’s been really hard because seeing the country that you live in bombing and intervening on the country that your family is from, it’s a very scary experience, it’s very scary. I fear for my family, I fear for my friends, I fear for everyone back in Venezuela that I knew.” he continued.

“That’s why we are here gathering together, to say that the people of the U.S don’t support these actions and we are against all U.S interventions on foreign soil,” said Mosquera.
