Local organization works to keep at-risk youth out of justice system
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A local organization dedicated to supporting young people and keeping them out of the justice system is celebrating a major milestone.
The Front Porch in Chatham County has completed its 2,000th assessment.
The Front Porch is an assessment center that works with at-risk youth. Their goal is to identify gaps, support families, and connect children with resources before they enter the justice system.
Front Porch Director Danica Rubenstein says their mission is diversion, and there are many reasons a child may need extra support. She says each of the 2,000 assessments represents an opportunity to change the trajectory of a child’s life.
“If you can catch a child early, it not only saves money and resources for our community, it strengthens families and schools schools,” Rubenstein said. “It keeps a child from entering a system that is harder to get out of than it is to get into.”
The Front Porch also provides family counseling and basic needs such as clothing and food. More information about the organization can be found here.
