BLYTHE, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A local mother has been arrested on charges of first-degree cruelty to children following an investigation into allegations of physical abuse.

Khrystal Burgess, 30, was arrested on Saturday after authorities say they reviewed video evidence of an alleged assault that occurred earlier in the week.

The video showed a child being held against a wall by the mother’s friend, followed by Burgess entering the frame, grabbing the child and throwing them against another wall, according to the incident report.

Deputies report that the footage depicted Burgess striking the child with a closed fist and pulling their hair.

According to the report, the video allegedly showed the child falling to the floor as Burgess shouted profanities at them.

Burgess and her friend were located and taken to the Criminal Investigation Division. Burgess was then transported to Richmond County jail without incident.

Burgess is charged with one count of cruelty to children in the first degree.
