LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 2:49 p.m.] Liberty County High School has been cleared and normal school operations have resumed, according to a media release WTOC just received.

“We are relieved to report that the building has been officially cleared by law enforcement,” the school says in the release. “The campus has been deemed safe and secure, and all students have safely returned to their classrooms. The school has resumed its normal instructional schedule.”

The Liberty County School System says it will continue to work in close coordination with law enforcement as they proceed with their investigation into this matter.

Superintendent Debra B. Frazier thanked students, staff, and families for their cooperation, saying “The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We appreciate the calm, quick response of our school community and the diligent work of our law enforcement partners.”

The district encourages parents and guardians to speak with their children about the seriousness and consequences of threats made within a school environment.

[ORIGINAL STORY] We are learning that Liberty County High School was fully evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat.

The Liberty County School System said once they got the threat, school officials immediately contacted law enforcement and initiated emergency protocols.

Now, the campus is on lockdown as law enforcement searches the premises. Law enforcement officers are on site and actively investigating the threat.

“We take all threats to our schools seriously, and the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure the building is safe for re-entry,” wrote the Liberty County School System in a press release. “Parents and families are urged not to come to the school campus at this time, as doing so could interfere with active police operations. Updates regarding the status of the school day will be communicated through the school’s official communication channels as soon as they are available."

The school system said all students and staff are safe and accounted for.
