Jasper County investigates human remains found during brush fire

JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating what appeared to be human remains in the Gilmania Road area off West Frontage Road.

Jasper Co. officers confirmed the property owner reported discovering what appeared to be human remains while conducting a controlled brush fire on their property.

“The remains are spread out over a very large area, we assume either happened by wildlife or flood BC the area is a very low-lying area,” said Jasper County Sheriff Chris Malphrus.

WTOC crews were on the scene.

The sheriff’s office said there is no known threat to the public at this time and crews will return to the scene Sunday.
