Jasper Co. man pleads for return of angel statue to mother’s gravesite
TILLMAN, S.C. (WTOC) - A Lowcountry man is calling for someone to return his mother’s angel statue.
He says someone took it from her gravesite, and he hasn’t seen it in two weeks.
Floyd Cemetery is off the beaten path in Tillman and is a place that’s hard to find if you don’t know where to look.
Victor Mock visits his parents’ gravesite every month, and when he visited on Thanksgiving, the statue that had sat there for five years next to his mother’s grave was missing.
“I just want my momma’s angel back,” Mock said.
The angel stood next to Gloria Woods Mock’s grave as a last request before her passing in 2020.
“She said, ‘Make sure you put my angel on my grave for me.’ And I did. It kinda feels like I let my mom down,”
A source of inspiration for Gloria until the very end.
“She had the angel right there in the room with her, and she would just look at that angel for energy and just to get her through some rough days,”
Now, at the gravesite is an empty hole surrounded by bricks.
A shocking discovery for Victor, especially because all the other figurines and mementos around the cemetery are still there.
“When I walked up, I noticed that the angel was gone,” Mock said. “That was the first thing that I noticed. It hit me, I was mad, I was mad.”
There are no security cameras at the family’s cemetery, and the person who keeps the grounds says that he didn’t see it go missing.
So, Victor took to Facebook and filed a report with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office to try to find it.
Nobody has come forward yet.
If you have any information that could help locate the statue, you are asked to contact Mock or the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
