HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC. (WTOC) - Two people were shot on Hilton Head Island early Sunday morning.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, their communication center received reports of a gunshot victim in the area of South Forest Beach Drive just after 1:30 a.m. When deputies arrived, they found a 17-year-old male victim on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officials say while on scene, deputies learned that the suspects fled in a vehicle and the description of the vehicle was given to deputies.

Deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle, but the vehicle tried to escape from deputies.

Officials say a tire deflation device was successfully deployed that ended the pursuit on Sunday Ford Drive. Multiple occupants in the vehicle were detained, and after further investigation, two suspects were arrested and transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

18-year-old, Erick Alexander Martinez Ambrosio, of Bluffton, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and aggravated breach of peace.

Officials say law enforcement presence may still be observed in these areas of Hilton Head in relation to this situation, but there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777.
