Investigation continues after four wounded in New Year’s Eve shooting
ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson Police Department is still pursuing leads in the shooting that left four people wounded on New Year’s Eve.
Anderson County dispatch reports police were called to Whitehall Avenue at 10:09 p.m.
Officers said they discovered a large gathering of young people at an event center and a 17-year-old girl who had been shot in the hip. The injury appeared non-life-threatening.
Dispatch then told officers that two other people arrived at the AnMed Emergency Room with gunshot wounds. One was in critical condition while the other’s wounds were non-life-threatening, according to police.
A fourth shooting victim arrived at the hospital early New Year’s Day. Officers said all victims are reported to have non-life-threatening injuries as of Thursday morning.
According to the incident report, two of the victims are 17 years old. The other two are 24 and 26 years old.
Details on a suspect have not been released at this time, but officers said they are “actively following up on strong leads.”
Anyone with information about the shooting incident is asked to call Anderson County Crime Stoppers or submit a tip through the tip line available on the Anderson Police Department website.
Zelda Gaines, the owner of Elegant Events by Zelda, said nothing like this has happened in the five years she’s been in business. The venue typically hosts events like baby showers, weddings and birthday parties.
“I couldn’t sleep last night,” Gaines said. “I was up all night worrying about the kids that were injured. I’m very, very disappointed.”
